Saline-filled implants are filled with sterilized salt water that, in the case of leaking, the salt water is harmlessly absorbed by the body. 

 

Women over 22 years of age may choose the new FDA approved silicone cohesive gel implants. These implants tend to be softer and lighter, with a more natural feel. The MemoryGel™ implants feature a cohesive, gelatin-like substance that acts as a solid rather than a liquid. Some of our patients refer to these implants as the “gummy bear” or “jello” implants because of these unique qualities. The cohesive gel will maintain its shape if pulled or stretched.  Most importantly, if there is a leak or rupture of the implant, the MemoryGel™ binds to itself reducing the chance that the silicone may spread beyond the implant.
